Two small updates. I created my own blog. I sometimes write for the blog of Kala Art Institute "Klog" also.
I also created a website dedicated to 3 Way Calling which featured Aleksandra Janik, Michael Damm and me.
I donated my piece to Space 47, San Jose, for their auction "GoodBuy: Cruel World." The space is run by two of my friends, Binh Danh and Angelica Muro. They are really great artists.

For this print I donated, I used the schematics of Enola Gay I made for "...till that morning" the piece I had shown in the exhibition "3 Way Calling" in Poland and some other images from its catalog. I had wanted to make something like this so long, putting together the materials from the process of making bigger scale installation and making it into prints or books. Let's see what else I can make out of the process of the piece...

I finally finished my project for "3 Way Calling," the exhibition in Opole, Poland with Aleksandra Janik and Michael Damm. I am pretty happy about the result. During the process of producing it, as it happens always when I am making something, I got some possibilities to develop this project furthermore. Of course, I could not make those possibilities happen in this show, but those will be my next projects! Please take a look at these photos of the piece.

Summertime
Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry
One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky
But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by
Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry
(the lyrics is by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin)

Opening. The piece is intended to be seen in the day time, but the opening was from 6 pm. I put additional light with yellow filter. First, the viewers were a bit afraid of getting closer!

For this exhibition in Poland, I am developing a new piece. It has been for a while since my residency at Taipei Artist Villege to construct a big installaion piece at a place very far from my home. This time I use the material I have never used, corrugated cardboard, and making a big airplane, B-29 Enola Gay!

"3 Way Calling" is an exhibition featuring three artists from three culturally and historically distinctive countries, Aleksandra Janik from Poland, Taro Hattori from Japan and Michael Damm from the U.S.A. "3 Way Calling" explores the subjective experiences of mobility and relocation in the globalized world. Three artists gathered to explore the shift of perspective and gaps in cultural perceptions that occur so frequently in our increasingly multi-centered world. The mechanism for their inquiry is a kind of triangular rotation - each artist moves one step over to make work in (and, to some extent, for and about) home countries of one of the other artists; Aleksandra Janik addresses Japan, Taro Hattori addresses US, and Michael Damm addresses Poland.
Aleksandra Janik's installation and black and white photographs are derived from her experience in Japanese gardens, expressing their tactility and tranquility. Taro Hattori creates a room size installation with sound and a cardboard sculpture of the Enola Gay, the airplane which dropped an A-bomb at the end of WWII. Michael Damm presents photographic and video collages which document the city-scape of Katowice, layering space and history to construct suggestively poetic images.
