One of the second movements -again and again

Bach’s Italian Concerto. I really like the interpretation by Glenn Gould in which he minimized the use of pedal so much and the atmosphere became so serene but with crystal clean high-tension. Unfortunately I could not find his play of the movement in YouTube. Instead, I found this lady who must be still a child. Her play seems to be still immature, but her interpretation is very close to what I want to hear. The play of other people on YouTube are all “wet” with overwhelming use of pedal. I have been looking for a good word to represent such feeling of music where serenety, clarity and high-tension coexist.

Also I find the play with harpsichord amusing too. I grew up with listening to harpsichord music. Our family had a vinyl record of Bach’s music played with harpsichord, and that was one of my favorites. I really like the quality of the sound of harpsichord that flattens all the notes, which unexpectedly let musical motifs emerge from the flattened but chaotic texture of musical notes and submerge into it. They act like new ideas I have right after I wake up. Well, what I am talking about here is actually what I hear from a fugue kind of contrapuntal music played by harpsichord. So, in the second movement of Italian Concerto, you wouldn’t experience such a flowing effect… anyway.

I wonder if “arid” is a good word, or a step in the right direction.
