Burning at the Headlands

I am at the Headlands Center for the Arts, doing my residency. It’s been good, but I still haven’t been able to catch my rhythm. Also, the Headlands is too close to my place, the flow of my thought gets often disrupted by various tedious chores of my real everyday life. Anyway, before start making the main project, I made this small piece. This Hindenburg is just 13″ long! It is quite cute.

Very close to the HCA, there is a historical missile site which has launching facilities of “Nike” anti-aircraft missiles. It was built in response to the possible threats of Soviet Union’s long-range bombers which might carry nuclear weapons. The strategy to protect the land from the Soviet bombers was to explode nuclear war-heads against those bombers which also carry nuclear bombs. Well… the maximum range of the missile was less than 100 miles. I am happy that I am able to use this studio at the Headlands today.
