An Open Art Community

When I observe an exhibition site, especially when I show my piece or curate in the site, I try to image the flow of people in the site. I imagine how audience enters the space, what they face to, which direction the space suggest the audience to go. The dynamic movement of people in the space always characterize the possibility and the limitation of the space. I always try to be sensitive about the placement of spectator’s view point, probably because I used to be really into black-box theater productions which allowed me to play with a variety of dynamics between the stage and the audience based on spatial configurations.

I believe an art organization which has both production studios and exhibition programs should function as a point of communication which the dynamic flow of cultural influence is active. Exhibition programs are always the stage of artists who bring in a new idea which redefine our cultural activities. The stage is open to the surrounding communities of the organization as well as to the INSIDE of it. The exhibitoin program should function as the window where new wind of culture blows into. Then, the production studios, on the other hand, export its new ideas to the OUTSIDE.
